My mum's mum, Annie Campbell, died aged 46 in the 1980s, years before I was born. Her favourite place in the world was the Isle of Iona, a tiny island off another island called Mull, in the Inner Hebrides of Scotland. Annie had a difficult life, and her visits to Iona were moments of peace and serenity, times when she didn't have to be anyone's mammy, anyone's long-suffering wife - she was just Annie. Her ashes were scattered there after her death, and it became a place that our family would visit to connect with her. These collages were made in 2019 from photos taken that Spring.
